Privacy Policy

What we collect

To build and mail your letter, you give us:

• Your name and current mailing address
• Your landlord's name and mailing address
• The rental address, and the facts the letter needs — which differ by letter: your deposit amount and move-out date; the condition you want repaired and when you first reported it; the dates and circumstances of the entries you are objecting to; or the late fee you were charged and the rent it was charged against
• Whatever you type in the optional description box
• Your email address, if you buy the mailing, ask us to email you the free letter, set a deadline reminder, or join a waitlist for a state we have not launched

We never see or handle your card. Payment details go directly to Stripe, our payment processor.

How we use it

Only to do the thing you asked for: generate your letter, print and mail it, email you the copy and tracking number, and process a refund if the mailing fails. We do not sell your information, rent it, or use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

Five service providers, each receiving only what it needs to do its part:

• Stripe processes your payment and holds your order details in the payment record so we can fulfill it.
• Lob prints your letter and hands it to USPS. It receives your name and address, your landlord's name and address, and the letter text.
• Resend delivers the emails we send you.
• Vercel hosts this site, so every request you make reaches it first, and provides the analytics described below. Order data passes through Vercel in transit but is not stored there.
• Anthropic rewrites the optional description box into formal prose. It receives only that free-text paragraph — never your name, your address, your landlord's details, your email, or your payment information. If you leave the box blank, nothing is sent to Anthropic at all.

If you ask us to email you the free letter, that request is written to our server log with your email address and the state you chose, and a copy is sent to the operator. We use it to understand how many people take a free letter and to follow up if you asked us to. It is not sold, and it is not added to a marketing list you did not ask for.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

How long it's kept

We keep nothing ourselves beyond ordinary server logs, which record technical details of requests and are discarded on our host's normal schedule. Your order data persists in Stripe's payment records and Lob's mailing records under their retention policies, which are longer than ours because financial and mail records have their own legal requirements.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how it's used — and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Write to hello@tenantrecourse.com and we will respond. Because we hold so little directly, most requests are satisfied by asking our processors to delete their copies.

Cookies and analytics

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Stripe sets cookies necessary to process payment and prevent fraud during checkout.

We do use Vercel Analytics to count page views and a small number of anonymous events — which step of the form you reached, whether a letter was generated, whether checkout was started. It sets no cookies, does not follow you to other sites, and does not build a profile of you. We use it to see where the form loses people, nothing else.

Children

This service is not for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If we change this policy materially we will update the effective date above.
